Making Serious Waves

This isn't about surfing, I tried that once. It was scary..probably because I can't swim very well. Anywho..this is about hair, but I bet you knew that! I love deep waves..I wasn't sure how to acheive them at first. I needed something to give me a smooth wave and most rollers give you a smooth coil. I tried putting flexi rods in a different way and ta da, it gave me the perfect look!  Check out the video below on the setting method.

Once you remove the flexi rod, you're left with a big, wavy, section of hair that you can pin up or leave down. I normally pin it up in a slightly messy fashion...that's just me though. I'll show you what I do after I take down my whole head of flexi rods to get a really glam style in the next post! :)

Til then!

You just made my day-- scratch that, my WEEK! I have always loved the defined, "old Hollywood" look of waves like this, and it never occurred to me to try it on my own afro-textured hair. I guess I just assumed it wouldn't work, and never really thought about it. I can't wait to do this. Thanks so much for showing how easy it is!

Absolutely gorgeous... as usual! ;-)

So, (1) it's not necessary to have soaking wet hair when setting it and, (2) when you set it with just the leave-in and the coconut oil, how long does it take to completely dry?

Thanks for all the lovely comments everyone!

@Kennie, Nope, not at all! This was done starting out on dry hair, it wasn't wet after applying the conditioner and coconut oil, just a tiny bit damp. I normally set my hair at 8:30 pm and wake up at 5 am and it's perfectly dry and fully set. The key is that fine line between damp and straight wet. Brushing to smooth the hair and trying to keep it slightly taut so it doesn't curly up on itself. I hope that helps! :)

very cute...I wanna try! LOL

how many sections sid you have in total, and what are the size/length of the flexi rods you used.

also did you just let you hair ary dry?

@CurlyChellez

I have about 8 or 9 sections total. If you set your hair on a lot of sections, you're hair might be as stretched..so I try to do as few as I can. I think my pink flexi rods are 1 inch and my blue ones .75 inch in diameter. My hair wasn't really wet, just slightly damp. If you can queeze water out of the section of hair, it's too wet!

How long does this last on you? I can barely get my waves to last a day! Maybe I need smaller rods?
